Cocktail gems that really sparkle!

Our collection of recommended cocktail recipe ideas shown here are all inspired by a range of precious stones and minerals – along with some fascinating facts about the gems themselves ...

Emerald Heaven

Emerald Heaven Emeralds are hard green precious stones and are known as the official birthstone for the month of May. They are also long thought to have healing powers – especially with eye sight problems. During their renaissance period, emeralds were often used as a test of friendship in the aristocratic world. It was believed that an emerald given as a gift to a friend would remain perfect for as long as the friendship continued. Why not try out our Emerald Heaven recipe with your friends?

Emerald Heaven – a bright green cocktail recipe made using 1 shot each of Hendricks Gin and De Kuyper Crème de Menthe topped up with pineapple juice. An ideal mix of dry gin, fruity pineapple and crisp, fresh mint flavours.

Ruby Cooler

Ruby Cooler A ruby is a blood red gemstone – and the depth and shade of red of each individual ruby is apparently due to the presence of chromium which cause the colour can range from deep red to pink or purple/brown. Its name is thought to come from the word “ruber” which is Latin for red. Again during the renaissance period, it was believed that rubies could counteract poison. Our ruby cocktail gem is worth testing out.

Ruby Cooler – this gorgeous cocktail is bursting with tropical fruit flavours. A perfect blend of Disaronno Amaretto with De Kuyper Crème de Bananes, De Kuyper Grenadine syrup topped with orange juice.

Sapphire Perfection

Sapphire Perfection As a relative of the ruby, did you know that sapphires can range in colour from blue to pink, green to white or purple and were once thought to protect their wearer from poisonous creatures. We can’t promise that our Sapphire Perfection cocktail will do that – but it does look and taste pretty spectacular!

Sapphire Perfection – what a spot on description of this cocktail! De Kuyper Blue Curaçao is the key ingredient providing the colour and flavour. Apart from looking stunning, this is incredibly easy to make. All you need to do is build the ingredients into a tumbler glass half filled with ice: Peach Schnapps, De Kuyper Blue Curaçao, lime cordial with bitter lemon to top up. Stir gently for the blue hues to even out and add a slice of freshly cut peach for garnish.

Topaz Sunrise

Topaz Sunrise Topaz is a very hard gemstone which ranges in colour from pink to blue as well as yellow and brown. Pure topaz is almost clear but because it is usually tinted by natural impurities, the typical topaz colour is usually a clear straw yellow. Topaz is the traditional birthstone used for the month of November. The colour of our topaz inspired cocktail is at the lighter end of the topaz colour spectrum and is a really easy, simple cocktail to make.

Topaz Sunrise – this is a long yet light and refreshing cocktail recipe with a hint of colour. Shake together a shot of Russian Standard vodka with half a shot of De Kuyper Triple Sec and 4 shots of grapefruit juice in a cocktail shaker and pour into a highball glass almost filled with ice. This a long drink with a burst of bitter sweet citrus flavours.

Turquoise Margarita

Turquoise Margarita Turquoise is a semi-precious stone which is bright blue. There are various thoughts as to how the name came about – it is similar to the French word for Turkish (Turquois) and whilst not found in Turkey, turquoise was traditionally traded in the Turkish Bazaars to Venetian merchants who brought it back to Europe. Our cocktail recipe is an iridescent blue ideal to add a splash of colour to any occasion!

Turquoise Margarita – this vivid blue cocktail is a great start to any cocktail party. Using De Kuyper Blue Curaçao mixed with tequila (instead of the Triple Sec used in the traditional Margarita recipe) with lime juice and a touch of sugar syrup, this eye catching cocktail is sure to be a great talking point and has the added bonus of tasting fantastic!
